Teeth Whitening in Edinburgh, Scotland

If you're looking for professional teeth whitening in Edinburgh that is safe, affordable and highly effective then our state-of-the-art clinic can help.

Our highly experienced teeth whitening team include our principal dentist and cosmetic dentistry expert John Davidson (GDC No: 57805) who has over 36 years dentistry experience in Scotland.

He is highly respected within the Scottish dental industry, with many senior roles including a part-time Dental Practice Inspector for Lothian NHS trust and sitting on the Scottish Dental Practice Committee.

All our dentists, hygienists and nurses are registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) so you can rest assured your in safe hands here at Marchmont.

Our professional teeth whitening is a stunning yet very simple way of lightening the colour of teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.

We all naturally have different coloured teeth – some are yellowy, some are more beige but very few are actually ‘white’. The procedure involves our General Dental Council registered dentist taking impressions so that special trays can be made that fit over the teeth. The patient applies the whitening gel to the trays and then wears them for a couple of hours per day.

Two weeks is usually sufficient to give a new brighter smile.

What is teeth whitening?

Our preferred choice of whitening, Opalescence, is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments available today since it is both highly effective and proven to lighten the natural colour of your teeth without removing the tooth surface.

Teeth can become discoloured as we get older. Many patients also enjoy tooth-staining products like coffee or red wine, and some smoke, which has a clear effect on the shade of your teeth.

Teeth whitening costs

We have made sure our professional Opalescence teeth whitening prices are extremely competitive and our prices therefore start from £350. Most dentists in Edinburgh charge from around £350 for professional teeth whitening but this depends on the exact treatments offered and whether these are at home or in-chair surgery.

Opalescence Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below answers to some of our most questions regarding Opalescence whitening:

How does it work?

Opalescence whitening gives you the chance to safely and effectively whiten your teeth at home. The active ingredients in the gels help to break down the discolored molecules deep down in your teeth, removing stains and whitening your smile.

Who can have teeth whitening?

Although teeth whitening is a safe and easy way to get a brighter, white smile it is not for everyone. You will not be allowed whitening if you are pregnant or under the age of 18 years.

How long does tooth whitening take?

The entire tooth whitening cosmetic treatment is usually completed within 3-4 weeks. Our expert dental team will initially make impressions of your teeth in the first visit. The treatment starts in the dental chair, but you will be given instructions so that you're able to continue the treatment at home.

You will usually apply the tooth whitening product on your teeth regularly for fast and satisfying whitening results.

How long will my teeth remain white?

This is dependent on how well you look after your teeth. If you regularly visit the dentist for checkups and visit our hygienist when recommended, you can expect the whitening effect to last up to a year. Teeth whitening can easily be topped up by purchasing additional syringes of gel and using your existing trays.

A pack of four syringes is £45 pounds and this can be done annually or every six months. The longer your teeth whitening lasts also depends on what you choose to eat, drink and avoiding tobacco.

Of course, if you continue to enjoy tooth-staining products the whitening is likely to not last as long.

Does whitening toothpaste really work?

There are a lot of choices when it comes to whitening toothpaste. Speak to us at Marchmont Dental about the recommended toothpaste to use. Teeth whitening toothpaste does not affect the natural colour of your teeth, but the right toothpaste can help remove staining to help make the effect last.
